This is Madness!!!

That was the Michigan-Loyola Chicago game. Michigan had me pretty nervous. In the second half, they were far behind. But they caught up and got ahead. The final score is Michigan 69- Loyola Chicago 57.

Michigan will be in the NCAA Championship game, which will be Monday night.

Next up is Kansas and Villanova. I have friends who are Kansas fans, so I hope their team wins. It’d be nice if we could faceoff in the Championship game.

Something Random

I’ve been on the fence about whether I’m ready to crawl out from under my rock and get back into blogging daily about whatever random thing happens to be on my mind. I don’t feel ready. My long withdrawal has me feeling like I’m climbing a steep hill just to write this entry. Chances are, once I post the entry, I’ll then want to take it down and crawl back under my rock.

“So, Wob, how’s stuff?”

I’m glad you asked. Stuff has been, meh. Usually when people ask me that sort of question, including “How are you?” I just shrug because I don’t fucking know. I don’t like to say “Good!” unless it feels entirely true, and don’t like to say “Bad!” for the same reason. I’m usually in the middle of good and bad,  But to say “In between” would just confuse people and to explain beyond that might get too wordy.

“Gweat! So, whatchu been up to, Wob?”

That’s an easier question to answer. I’ve been doing what I always do. Productivity is up. Been watching The Walking Dead on Sunday nights and I checked out the new series on AMC. The Terror. It’s interesting so far.

“What about Woseanne, huh? They webooted the show.”

I did watch Roseanne last night. Don’t really have any complaints, but I thought the actors were a little rusty. I don’t know what they’ve done since the shows first run ended in 1997, but I had the impression that it’s been a while since any of them had any major acting roles.

Roseanne was one of my favorite shows when I was growing up and I’m pleased that the show was rebooted. It’s like reconnecting with old friends after twenty years. I was surprised when I got on Facebook today and saw posts from left-leaning friends declaring their desire to not watch the show, because they don’t like Roseanne Barr’s positions on political and social issues.

I admit, I didn’t know about Roseanne Barr’s politics until I saw these posts. But after watching last night’s episodes, I thought it would be far right wingers voicing disgust about the show. It’s my understanding that it was Sara Gilbert who put the reboot together, not Roseanne Barr, and I’m under the impression that Gilbert  is the one calling the shots, but I could be wrong.

“Wob, what about NCAA Basketball?”

I am following the Madness. Michigan’s in the Final Four, that game will be Saturday night. Very exciting. On the side, baseball is back. The Tigers just finished Spring Training and their first regular season game is tomorrow in Detroit at 1 PM, Vs the Pirates. But the Tigers have a new team this year and it might take time getting used to that.

Frybrain

I spent hours cleaning up a short story. I think this one is my first children’s story, but I’m not positive. I’ve written so many stories, I can’t remember them all. I’m proud of this story and I hope it does well.

I’m waiting for Monday Night Football to start. I’m going to watch the hell out of it. Vikings and Bears. I’m pulling for the Bears in this one. You?

The Rich Report

This morning the Fuhrer reported that he has spoken with Jerry Jones. The details of the conversation are not disclosed, but the owner of our nation’s finest football team, the Dallas Cowboys, has assured Dear Fuhrer that this nonsense will end. The players of the Dallas Cowboys will stand for our country.

This is rejoicing news for the true patriots of our great nation. We urge you to stand with the Cowboys and cheer for them as they carry on our national pride. The Fuhrer has spoken highly of Jones and proclaimed that he is a winner.

All must be made aware that unpatriotic behavior will not be tolerated. You are free to express yourselves, but only within the grounds that our administration has constructed. If you are not with us, then you are against us.

Heil Trump!

The NFL and the Anthem

The notion that kneeling during the National Anthem is disrespectful to the troops and veterans is such bullshit. It’s usually voiced by people who never served but who have a tendency to suck up to the troops. I know a number of people who served, who are not bothered by NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem. They have voiced their support for this movement because they understand what it is and what it’s not.

Many who are currently serving or who have served in the Military expressed that they served to protect Freedom, including the Freedom of Expression, which is what we’ve been seeing in the NFL lately. It’s a constitutional right that every American has. President Trump doesn’t appear to respect that right.

The NFL is not disrespecting the National Anthem, the flag, the troops or the country. They are trying to make a difference, to raise awareness and combat injustice. No, actually, what we saw over the weekend was NFL teams and owners making it clear to Trump that they support the rights of their teammates. Some of the people involved in the arm linking and kneeling are friends of Trump’s.

Of course there are veterans who are offended by this movement, but the fact that they are veterans isn’t the real reason they’re offended. They’re offended for the same reason that a lot of other people are, they don’t understand it and they think it’s something that it’s not.

…and that was Monday Night Football

Whoever came up with the idea of Monday Night Football is a genius. The weekend is over and for many people, Monday is their reentry into Hell. But, hey, at least they got a football game to look forward to.

Yeah, yeah. Not everyone likes football. Shut up.

That was a good game. I enjoyed it. But I’m disappointed that Arizona didn’t manage to beat Dallas. I hate the Cowboys, almost as much as I hate the Buckeyes.

Well, the NFL is really making a fool out of Pmurt. It looks like his friends in the NFL are siding their teams and making it clear how strongly they disapprove of what he said.

The Bat Shack Still Stands

The Bat Shack is still standing. At the end of every deer hunting season, I close my shack and I don’t return to it until shortly before the next season starts. Every year I half expect it to be folded in on itself. The posts and the deck that the shack is on are in good shape and I expect them to last a long time. But the shack, the walls and roof, I keep thinking that’s going to collapse.

The roof is okay, but the walls have been breaking here and there. But they’re still holding up.

If you missed it, here’s why I call my hunting shack The Bat Shack.

I don’t know what those greenish lumps on the ceiling are. Could they wasp nests? Nor do I know what those freaking fuzzy ball things under the chair are. There’s always something creepy in there. Although I closed all the windows last year, something managed to get one of them open. Probably a raccoon or some other monster that I don’t care to meet.

I did watch the Lions today. It was the most heart breaking loss. With just a few seconds left on the clock, they finally got the ball into the end zone and won. But then the refs reviewed the play and decided, no, that wasn’t a touch down. The clock ran out and the game was over.

The Lions are now 2-1.

I didn’t make it out to The Bat Shack, but….

Yesterday I talked about my plans for today, but they didn’t go through. I raked and bagged some leaves. It was so damn hot. My face was a sweat faucet. So, I didn’t finish.

The apples that fell off the neighbors’ tree and landed in my backyard looked fresh a few days ago. But I guess this heat wave was too much for them. Now they look like the rotten hearts of zombies. I don’t want to feed those to deer. Maybe there will be some fresh ones next week.

I made it over to Mom and Dad’s, but I didn’t want to walk out to the shack in this heat. Instead we watched the Michigan-Purdue game. Purdue was tough, but they couldn’t stop Michigan.

Michigan 28 – Purdue 10.

A Hot Night

It’s pretty hot tonight. I’m sweating, drinking cold lemonade, listening to Nirvana and Sia and working on a short story. This short story will be the last for a while. I’m going to focus on the next novel when I’m done with the short story. That’ll be 25 short stories on the market. I’ll keep moving these stories down the market list until they sell.

Deer season starts in a week. I haven’t purchased the license and kill tags yet, but I’ll be getting them soon. I’m plan to get over to Mom and Dad’s tomorrow and take a look at The Bat Shack. I hope the shack is still holding up. I never got around to rebuilding it. If it’s too damaged, I might find a different spot to hunt this year.

The Lions are 2-0.
The Wolverines are 3-0.

Anyone notice how many Mom & Pop stores in the area are suddenly going out of business. It’s freaking sad. I have a feeling that the buildings these stores were in are going to sit abandoned for years and years. I’m hoping someone turns one these buildings into a butcher shop or meat market. It’d be nice to have such a place closer to where I live.

I got yard work to do tomorrow. Have to rake and bag leaves. and maybe mow the lawn. My next door neighbors have a very healthy apple tree in their backyard, right next to the fence. A lot of the apples land in my yard. I’m going to bag them up and use them for bait.

I’m tempted to tell the neighbors that if they don’t want the apples on their side of the fence, I’ll take them. But I’m shy. The apples have a strong scent that I’m sure will attract deer.
