No Bats in the Shack

20161119_155406

Made it out today. Yesterday it was pretty warm outside, but today it was freezing. It even snowed a little. I know enough about bats to know they don’t mess around when it’s cold. They huddle together for warmth and stay that way until temperatures rise again. Any bat not in the huddle is either dead or dying.

So, I wasn’t too worried about being in the shack today. I admit that I was a little jumpy, but not terribly. Got in a few hours of hunting, but didn’t see any deer. Pretty much just read. Been getting in a lot of reading while sitting in the shack this year.

I packed it up when it was getting dark and made it back to the house in time to catch the last quarter of the Michigan-Indiana game. That was a hell of a snowstorm you guys in Ann Arbor had. People were making snow angels on the field. At times the snow was falling so hard, we could barely see the game.

Michigan won. The final score was 20-10.

No Blue

Well, damn. It just happened. Iowa wrecked Michigan’s perfect season. By one point.

The Wolverines were ahead. The score was Michigan 13- Iowa 11. But the Wolverines’ defense failed to hold the Hawkeyes back as the last seconds were running out.

The Hawkeyes got themselves within field goal range with three seconds left on the clock.

I prayed that Iowa’s kicker would miss the mark or one of our guys would miraculously leap and block the ball as it flew overhead.

But when has God ever listened to me?

Blue Peppers

Michigan beat Michigan State. It had been a few years since the Wolverines last won the Paul Bunyan Trophy. The final score was 32-23. Michigan had a bigger lead than that, but State pushed harder in the 4th Quarter.

Jabrill Peppers made some heroic plays. Near the end, when State was getting awfully close to the end zone, Peppers nailed the quarterback on the 4th down and the ball was turned over to Michigan.

State did get another touchdown, with one second left on the clock. After that, instead of kicking for one more point, State was going to try for two points.

But the quarterback dropped the ball and Peppers snatched it up. He ran the whole length of the field to Michigan’s end zone and those two points went to the Wolverines instead.

In Sports: I’ll just make a big stew tonight

Okay, just watched the Red Wings win another one. Good game. They’ve really been slicing the ice. Tonight’s win was their fifth win in a row and that makes their season 5-2 so far. Lookin’ good.

The Lions are picking up their game. They won their last three games. I admit that things were pretty tense in those games, but they won them. Their season is 4-3 now and looking hopeful.

Now the Michigan Wolverines, baby. Jim Harbaugh and the team are making me very happy. The Wolverines are undefeated so far, 7-0, and several of their wins were big wins.

The Michigan-Michigan State game is Saturday. I expect the Wolverines will beat the Spartans this years.

Go Blue!

The Detroit Pistons start their regular season tomorrow at 7:30 PM. I’m looking forward to it. Their preseason was so-so, they won three and lost three. But preseasons are really just warm ups and don’t mean much. So, who knows what will happen in the regular season. I expect it to be fun.

I’m rooting for the Cubs in the World Series. I saw them win the NLCS on Saturday night. It had been a very, very long time since they last did that. Long term curses like that sure remind you how old Major League Baseball is. Billy Goat’s curse lasted longer than Babe Ruth’s.

The Cub’s gotta win the World Series. If they win, all will be right in the world.

Michigan Sinks Hawaii

The Michigan Wolverines went all Blue on Hawaii’s Rainbow Warriors. Many long rushes and passes gave Michigan a 63-3 victory for the first game of the new season.

Next week Michigan plays UCF. Maybe that’ll be a tougher game, maybe not. I’d sure like to see Michigan win all and lose none this season.

Welp, a good first week.

Go Blue!

Meanwhile, the Michigan Wolverines are kicking ass

While the Detroit Lions are having a horrible season, the Michigan Wolverines are kicking ass. They’re 7-2 so far this season. Many of their victories were big wins and only a couple were close.

I wish it was a perfect season, but it’s a season I’m happy with. I admit, I was disappointed when they lost their first game to Utah and my faith dropped some. But then they had a solid streak of big wins.

Until the Michigan-Michigan State game.

For several years in a roll, the Spartans have beaten the Wolverines. I had high hopes that this year we would see a Wolverine victory over the Spartans. We have Jim Harbaugh now and he certainly has turned things around since Hoke’s reign ended. I had hoped he would bring us a victory in the Michigan-Michigan State game.

Oh, the Wolverines were ahead by a few points, with just a few seconds left on the clock, and then something went terribly wrong. A field goal attempt went bad, a Spartan defense man got the ball and ran all the way down the field for a touchdown.

It was painful to watch and my spirit died a little. Out of all the games they play, there are two games that I really want to see them win. That’s the game against Michigan State and the game against Ohio State.

I’m not completely over the loss to Michigan State, but I’ll consider this a great season if they win the rest of their games. The last game will be against Ohio State, who are currently undefeated. If the Wolverines can beat the Buckeyes this year, I’ll be very, very happy.

The Michigan-Minnesota Game

Rudock was injured, but Wilton Speight proved to be a decent replacement. Still, that was too freaking close. Minnesota was right there on the goal line. All Minnesota needed was a touchdown and they would have won, but Michigan managed to hold them back until the clock ran out. Practically gave me a heart attack.

Michigan wins, 29-26. That makes them 6-2 for the season.

Jim Harbaugh in the Big House

We got him. It’s been official for a few days now. Jim Harbaugh has signed the contract and is the head coach of Michigan’s football team. This makes me happy. I couldn’t watch the Wolverines’ last season. I watched maybe five games and then I just totally gave up on them for the season. That’s saying a lot, because I really, really love the Michigan Wolverines. But this last season was such a disaster that I couldn’t watch. I just couldn’t.

Brady Hoke really fucked up. The guy made some horrible coaching decisions, even violated some rules. It was time for him to be gone. Jim Harbaugh has a great coaching record and a Super Bowl under his belt. Though he did not win the Super Bowl that year, he got his team there and that’s a big thing. It’s also known that Harbaugh did very well coaching college football before going to the NFL. I read somewhere that he feels his way of coaching is better suited for college kids. That’s one of the reasons why he decided to leave the NFL and return to the NCAA and his old school.

The 2015 college football season is a ways off, but I’m looking forward to it. I have faith that Harbaugh will turn things around.

Welcome back to Michigan, Jim.

Denard Robinson with the Jacksonville Jaguars

I’m happy that Denard Robinson has found a home in the NFL. Since the college football season ended, I had been wondering where Robinson would go. I’d hoped it would be Lions, but that was a matter of decisions to be made by both Robinson and the team.

Come football season, I will watch the Jaguars when I can, just so I can see Robinson play. As I understand it, he won’t be a quarterback, but will most likely play as a running back. And that’s cool. It was his rushing that I loved most when he was Michigan’s quarterback. So as a running back for the Jaguars, he’ll be making a lot of rushing plays. Yeah, he made some nice passes as a quarterback and I will miss those, but at least he’s still playing football.

In sports, I’m a fan of a few teams. The Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Lions and the Michigan Wolverines are my favorite teams. But it’s usually just the teams that I’m a fan of. There are some players who I like a great deal, but I wouldn’t say I’m fan of theirs. Most of the time I can’t keep the names of the players straight. But Denard Robinson is an exception. I plan to follow his professional career. It’s my belief that he will be a benefit for every team he plays on.
