Sports in the D

The Pistons started first, against the Dallas Mavericks. I think the Piston-Maverick game was in the second quarter when the Red Wings started their game against the St. Louis Blues.

I spent much of the evening flipping back and forth between the two games, but the Pistons had most of my attention. They played very well tonight. They were ahead of the Mavericks the entire game, leading by more than twenty points at times.

The Mavericks were closing the gap as the final minutes ticked off, but when the time ran out, the final score was Mavericks 91 and Pistons 98.

Reggie Jackson was very impressive tonight.

The Red Wings and the Blues were starting their third period when the basketball game ended. The score was still Blues 1 – Red Wings 0, which it had been since the first period. The score only changed within the last minute when the Blues shot the puck all the way across the ring and right into the goal. So, bummer there.

Major League Baseball is finally starting up. Though it’s not on TV, the Tigers’ pitchers and catchers have reported in and had their first workout yesterday. The first Spring Training game is next week, against the Moccasins, but I don’t think it will be on TV.

It doesn’t look like the Tigers will have a Spring Training game on TV until they play the Yankees on March 11. The Tigers will start their Regular Season on April 3rd, against the White Sox.

Rob Darnell lives in a nice neighborhood. His office window looks out on a lake. He has a cat named Buddy and a dog named Luci. He loves the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, Pistons and the Michigan Wolverines. An avid deer hunter, he spends time in a tiny shack from the beginning of October until the end of December. Damn, damn, damnity, damn

Urgh!

Jesus Christ, the Pistons kept missing their shots. Seems like every time I turn on a Piston game, this is what I see. The Pistons dragging behind the other team.

Tonight’s game was against the Kings. In the third quarter, the Piston were about ten points behind the Kings, but they brought their score up. At one point in the fourth quarter, the Pistons were three points behind.

The Pistons had plenty of chances to get ahead of the Kings, but they kept missing their shots.

Lately while watching my teams lose, I get so mad that my bitching doesn’t make sense. My words don’t come together in a proper sentence. It’s been like that since the Wolverines lost to the Buckeyes. After the Wolverine-Buckeye game, I watched the Lions blow their first place standing and their Wildcard, and the Wolverines lost the Orange Bowl.

My teams are killing me.

In Sports: I’ll just make a big stew tonight

Okay, just watched the Red Wings win another one. Good game. They’ve really been slicing the ice. Tonight’s win was their fifth win in a row and that makes their season 5-2 so far. Lookin’ good.

The Lions are picking up their game. They won their last three games. I admit that things were pretty tense in those games, but they won them. Their season is 4-3 now and looking hopeful.

Now the Michigan Wolverines, baby. Jim Harbaugh and the team are making me very happy. The Wolverines are undefeated so far, 7-0, and several of their wins were big wins.

The Michigan-Michigan State game is Saturday. I expect the Wolverines will beat the Spartans this years.

Go Blue!

The Detroit Pistons start their regular season tomorrow at 7:30 PM. I’m looking forward to it. Their preseason was so-so, they won three and lost three. But preseasons are really just warm ups and don’t mean much. So, who knows what will happen in the regular season. I expect it to be fun.

I’m rooting for the Cubs in the World Series. I saw them win the NLCS on Saturday night. It had been a very, very long time since they last did that. Long term curses like that sure remind you how old Major League Baseball is. Billy Goat’s curse lasted longer than Babe Ruth’s.

The Cub’s gotta win the World Series. If they win, all will be right in the world.

Jefferson City @ St. Joseph Academy

I feel like I’m entering an unfamiliar territory with this post, but I want to give it try. I’d like to get in some more blog entries about sports and about games I watched. It doesn’t matter if I don’t have any particular loyalty to either of the teams in a game.

I was on ESPN3.com to see if The Big Ten Championship football game was listed, because Michigan State is in this game. I have to be honest. Although the Wolverines are my all time favorite college team, the Spartans are my second favorite. When the Spartans are in the championship game, that’s a game I want to watch.

But, no luck. The Big Ten Championship game was not listed on ESPN3.com, so I decided to watch something else. There were quite a few games to choose, most of them NCAA football and basketball games. But I wanted to watch something a little different and selected a girls high school basketball game that was listed.

That game was Jefferson City at St. Joseph Academy. I don’t think it was a live game, but I’m pretty sure it was recent, probably yesterday or the day before. I don’t even know what state these two schools are in. But all that’s cool. It was just a pure basketball game where everyone plays fair.

I came in late. They were in the third quarter. The scores were close, in the high-twenties. I think St. Joseph Academy was leading by two points when I first got the game on. Since I didn’t have a dog in the fight, I was rooting for whoever had the ball at the moment.

I thought both teams played very well. I was impressed with some of the moves the players made. I could never play basketball very well. I had a brief stint on Michigan School for the Deaf’s basketball team during my sophomore year, but I was just embarrassing. I just never had talent for basketball, but I do enjoy watching a good basketball game.

The young women playing for Jefferson City and St. Joseph Academy were talented players.  They played a good game, a game worth watching.

At some point Jefferson City pulled ahead and continued to secure their lead. But St. Joseph Academy kept playing until the clock ran out. The final score was Jefferson City 47 and St. Joseph Academy 34.
