Water

I had a weird dream last night. I don’t really remember the details, but something about a mud puddle that I “think” I was supposed to drink out of had me sitting up in bed suddenly, my throat dry and there was a lot of painful coughing. I went into the kitchen and got a bottle of water from the fridge.

After drinking the water, the coughing stopped, but my throat was still sore. It”s about ten hours later. My throat is still sore and feels dry, even after drinking water. How hot was it last night? I feel like I swallowed a handful of sand.

Quadpod

Yesterday, my dad and I were at Menards in Davison. When we on our way back to the car, we stopped and looked at a couple of towering quadpod stands. I  expressed that I was interested in them and had been looking at such things online for a couple weeks now. (Remember, I’ve been obsessing over hunting gear.) But these stands are out of my price range, so I didn’t expected I’d have one anytime soon.

My dad informed me a little while ago that him and my mom had decided to get me an early Christmas present, which happens to be the  Pinnacle 14ft Quadpod. That’s quite a surprise. It’s an early Christmas present so I can have it up and ready in time for the bow season, which starts October 1st.

I don’t have it yet, but it was ordered. I’m thrilled and can’t wait to use it. It’ll have me up much higher than my shack does. That should help keep my scent from being detected and give me a longer view.

There’ll be pictures when I have it and it’s set up.

Flag

There was always a mount on my porch, but I didn’t have a pole for it until last night.

When I went out this morning to put the flag up, just as I was stepping off the porch, I heard a bark. I looked over and there’s a dog on my sidewalk. It wasn’t a German Shepherd, but it was about the same size as one. I don’t know what the dog’s intentions were, but it was approaching fast and it scared me.

I backed up into the house. The dog came right up onto the porch. It looked like it was about to lunge at me as I was closing the door. It was on my porch for about a minute, and then it took off. I guess one of the neighbors called it.

I wonder what would have happened if I had already been off the porch and taking a picture of the flag. I had my .380 in my waistband, but I would rather not have to use it.

Big dogs roaming the neighborhood are one of the reasons I’m rarely outside without a pistol. A few years ago, when I went out to get my garbage can, there were two full-grown Great Danes in my front yard barking at me like I had just entered their territory and was threatening their cubs.

We’re in the middle of August, October 1st isn’t too far off

Who’s deer hunting this year? Got any stories or tips, or anything at all to share about deer hunting?

I’m not an expert hunter, but I like to say, when you go hunting, just relax, don’t try so hard to make nature obey your will. If you use a shack or blind, bring your phone and read an ebook while you wait for deer. I often read a whole chapter before I look out the window, and when I look out, many times there is something there.

I believe I had a buck in front of me last year, in October. If my eyes weren’t decieving me, it had two antlers that were about six inches long. But, of course, I bumped my bow into the wall when I picked it up.

Alaskan White

My cousin Anthony lives in Alaska and probably gets this beer at a lower price than the rest of us. I’ve been looking for it since he recommended it. Partly because trying different beers is a hobby of mine and partly because the name “Alaskan White” makes me think of beer coming fresh from a pile of snow in Alaska, which makes it right for hot summer days.

Finding Alaskan White isn’t easy. Not very many stores in Michigan sell it. Today I was on the Alaskan Brewing Co. website and they have a feature for locating stores that sell their beers. I checked that out and saw that there are two stores in Davison that sell Alaskan White.

My dad and I went into Davison to pick up food. We went by the A&B on Davison Road, about a mile or two west of State Road, and I bought their last six pack of Alaskan White. Now I’m home. I already had one and I’m almost done with my second.

Overall, it tastes like beer, but there’s more to it than that. It’s a smooth drink and there’s an icy flavor to it. I recommend you try it to see what I mean. It’s good stuff. If you can find it.

I finished my second. Opening my third now.
