World Series

That was Game 7. The Houston Astros just lost the World Series and the Washington Nationals won. I guess this was the Nationals’ first World Series. So, congratulations to them, though they weren’t my team.

Well, that’s it for baseball 2019. Football, basketball and hockey will have to do until Spring Training 2020.

My Love for Baseball

Last night, after the World Series Game 6, my friend Katie asked me “What made you love baseball so much?” This is what I said.

Hard to say. I grew up hearing about Kirk Gibson. I might’ve watched some of the 1984 World Series, but don’t know if I was really that into it. I remember watching the Dodger’s World Series when Gibson played for them, but not sure I paid much attention.

It’s funny. I feel like I didn’t really follow baseball when I was a kid, but at the same time, I seem to have watched baseball regularly. I remember watching Gibson when he played for the Pirates, and I watched him when he came back to Detroit. Though I didn’t really understand the game until later in my life.

Also, I think the movie Field of Dreams had a lot to do with turning me onto baseball. Mostly because the movie introduced me to the history of the game, which I found fascinating. Baseball is like a religion to me. It’s deep and traditional. In the order of things, I place baseball above the Bible. There is nothing more magical and powerful than baseball, not in my book. Baseball is also something I turn to during hard times. It helps me get through.

Though I enjoy the game as a fan, I’m sad that I didn’t enjoy it much as a player. I played little league, but I was so clueless, confused, self-conscious and unsure of what I was supposed to be doing. I didn’t really play. I just stood there like an idiot. Later, in a high school P. E. class, we played softball on the school’s baseball field. I surprised myself by slugging the ball deep into the outfield. At that point, I realized I could’ve been a decent baseball player. I should have tried out for the school’s team, but I didn’t, and it might have been too late anyway.

Today’s Blog Topic is “I Don’t Have a Topic.”

I’m trying to get back to blogging at least once a day. I was derailed for a week or so.

Yesterday my brother came over to watch the World Series Game 1. We missed the first half hour because I wanted to watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. If there’s a Charlie Brown special on, I have to watch it.

I cooked a pasta-burger mix and there was plenty for both of us.

Well, I’m having a slow day, but I got some work done. Going to cook steak. Game 2 starts at 8.

GAME 6

That was beautiful. The Astros are going to the World Series. It was the bottom of the 9th. The Yankees were picking up their game and the score was 4-4. There were two outs when Jose Altuve hit the ball so high and far I thought it would leave the stadium.

The Astros will face the Nationals in the World Series.

I love baseball.

MLB Playoffs

The Dodgers and Braves are out, so I’m not very interested in the NLCS. Game 5 for the Astros and Rays ALDS starts at 7. If the Astros lose, I might not watch the ALCS or the World Series this year. I just don’t care much for the Rays, Yankees, Cardinals and Nationals.

Productive Day

This was a very productive day. I might’ve kept going, but the Astro-Ray game started and Verlander is pitching. This is Game 4. If the Astros win today, they win the division. If they lose, there’ll be Game 5.

The Braves and Cardinals are 2-2, so are the Dodgers and Nationals. They’ll all settle in their Game 5s.

Oh, and the Yankees already swept out the Twins.

Sports

The Astros just beat Rays again. It was very close there at the end and I went a bit crazy when the Astros won it. They are my number two team after all. One more win and the Astros will have the division. Then they’ll face either the Twins or the Yankees in the ALCS.

I hate the Yankees with passion. I like the Twins only about two or three centimeters more than I hate the Yankees. Maybe it’d be more fun to have the team I hate more play my number two team in the ALCS. So, I guess I’ll pull for the Yankees in their division. Not that they need me. The odds are in their favor, same as the Astros.

In the NLDS, The Cardinals and the Braves are 1-1, so are the Nationals and the Dodgers. I don’t care much for the Cardinals, but I like the Braves. I don’t like the Nationals, but I like the Dodgers. If the Dodgers and the Braves both with their NLDSs, it’ll be tough deciding who to root for in the NLCS.

Michigan beat Iowa earlier today. Michigan State did not manage to beat Ohio State. I hate the Buckeyes more than the Yankees. In fact, I hate the Buckeyes more than I hate the Cowboys and the Indians. I don’t think there’s a team in sports that I hate more than the Ohio State Buckeyes.

So, yeah, I’m disappointed that Sparty failed to wreck what’s looking like a perfect season for the Buckeyes.

American League Wildcard

The American League wildcard game starts in an hour. The Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland Athletics. In this game, I’m rooting for Oakland. I don’t have anymore shelled peanuts, but I have plenty of beer. Don’t worry, I won’t be hungry, ’cause I’m cooking pork chops.

The Brewers did not win last night, so the Nationals will face the Dodgers in the NLDS.
