Today my friend Jill shared a meme about the religion of pizza. Since seeing that meme, I haven’t been able to get pizza off my mind. The picture is from DoorDasher Jacob.

There was no way around it. I needed to watch The Muppet Christmas Carol. I just bought the movie on Amazon and I’m starting it now. I feel like I haven’t seen this one before, but I might have.

The Muppets are cool.

New Spices

I really loaded up on groceries tonight. I should be good for a while. While at the store, I grabbed five containers of spices. One of them is Garlic Pepper. I like what it did to the chicken I just cooked.

The Last Hunt

Tomorrow is the last day of firearm season, but I’m probably not going to make it out. I only made it out a few times this year and today was likely my last hunt. I regret that I didn’t hunt the land much when I was young.

I was twelve when we moved into that house and I had been fascinated with the land from the beginning, but I didn’t develop a passion for hunting until I was in my late-twenties. I’ve shot three deer. I guess that’s a feat to be proud of. But I wonder, if I would have started earlier in my life, would I feel more accomplished as a hunter by this point? Would I maybe have gotten the buck I’ve been dreaming about for the last fifteen years?

I see the pictures that so many of you post each hunting season. The ones of yourselves with bucks that have majestic racks. I’m impressed every time I see these pictures, but I always wonder, what do you guys do right that I’m doing wrong?

How is it that the bucks just come out for you? I can think of only three times that I’ve had a buck with a noticeable rack in front of me. They all took off before I could get a shot at them.

I’m not crazy about those movies, except for Die Hard and A Christmas Story. I love A Christmas Story and I refuse to go through Christmas Day without watching it at least once.

But I tend to like everything that’s professionally made. Some better than others, but I’ll probably like it whatever it is. If the people who made the movie know what they’re doing, then it’s probable that I’ll have no complaints.

I barely think of Planes, Trains and Automobiles as a Christmas movie, but I guess that is what it is. The thing that really moves me in that movie is Del sitting alone in the car missing his dead wife. It’s more powerful after I found out at the end that his wife was dead. I like how Neal opened the door and told Del to come in, and they spent the night drinking the those little liquor bottles that Del had in his massive trunk.

Home Alone. How can you not like a movie that has Joe Pesci? I mean, seriously. Joe Pesci! But my favorite parts of Home Alone is when Kevin has that talk with Mr. Marley at the church, and then at the end when Kevin looks out the window and sees Mr. Marley had made peace with his son. That last scene makes me teary-eyed every time.

I often rewatch movies just to see those little scenes that touched my heart.

Made it out today. Didn’t see anything, but the doe urine I sprayed on the ground has a very strong smell. I’d be surprised if a buck doesn’t pick up that scent.
